This is what the Georgetown Marriot Entertainment Complex will look like when completed A release from the company said the final date for the ceremony is being coordinated among the various parties.
ADUA has confirmed that it has secured the funding for the entire project which will cost in excess of US$50M. ADUA and its principals are providing the necessary guarantees for the funding. The financing closing will be consummated in Guyana via its Guyanese subsidiary that will be executing the project on behalf of ADUA. ADUA has retained the services of a local professional accounting firm and a local law firm to complete local paperwork necessary to be completed in Guyana.
In May 2008, ADUA, under contract from the Government of Guyana and GWI, constructed new sewerage pipes to allow the site to be cleared for construction. The well was also relocated. Additionally, in May, ADUA at its own cost, completed initial clearing and demolition of buildings, including the former Lukhoo Pool, the release said.
One building temporarily remains and will be used as a construction site office. Prior to the sod-turning ceremony, the entire site will be cordoned off via fencing to allow for the start of construction.
“ADUA looks forward to concluding its paperwork and regulatory approval for construction with Government agencies, including the EPA, the Mayor & City Council, and the Government of Guyana. Construction shall be ready to start upon all regulatory approvals and required permits,” the release said.
In April 2008, ADUA presented its design plans and drawings of the hotel to all keys stakeholders, including EPA, Mayor and City Council (MCC), Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sea Defence Board, and the Government. On May 16, 2008, the EPA held a scope meeting to determine the Terms of Reference for the EIA being completed by Environmental Management Consultants. In June 2008, this TOR was approved by the EPA and posted on the EPA’s website. In August, ADUA, through its Environmental Consultants, will present the draft EIA to the EPA for review, approval and issuance of a permit.
The project proposal outlines the establishment of a modern, iconic, state-of-the-art hotel, casino, and entertainment complex in Georgetown, that would become the post-card shot and the pride of the country. It will consist of 160 hotel rooms, a casino, nightclub, restaurants, swimming pool, convention hall and parking facilities. The hotel portion of the complex will be 10 stories high and will offer excellent views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Demerara River, and Georgetown.
